Tectubes, a Swedish manufacturer of tubes for the food, pharmaceutical, personal care and chemical industries, recently reduced manufacturing downtime and decreased maintenance costs by upgrading its material handling processes with an industrial vacuum conveying system from PIAB.
In order to manufacture more tubes in less time, executives at Tectubes sought to increase efficiency of the company's material handling processes. Specifically, there was an opportunity to reduce machine downtime in the manufacturing process by improving the way that the plastic granules were handled.
The existing conveying system relied on mechanical vacuum pumps, which require regular lubrication to maintain. Constantly having to grease the conveyors caused machine interruption and slowed productivity. In order to streamline the manufacturing process, Tectubes replaced the existing conveying system with a compact and maintenance-free, compressed-air driven Industrial Conveyor (IC) system from PIAB.
The IC conveyor is based upon the COAX multistage vacuum ejector technology that achieves higher performance and consumes 25% less energy than conventional pumps. Since the new system was installed, Tectubes' energy and maintenance costs have decreased and the company has experienced increased productivity thanks to reduced manufacturing downtime.
"The vacuum conveyors have proven extremely reliable," said Tommy Andersson of Tectubes. "We now have ten systems running without interruption and they are easy to operate and require almost zero maintenance."
