Bradford-based Thorite has completed plans for a major six figure capital investment programme, centred on its Laisterdyke headquarters building. The company has installed the latest, automated carousel warehousing systems to transform the premises into the new National Distribution Centre. This development has created the most efficient product stocking and retrieval system possible, to ensure that air compressors, pumps, hand tools, valves and the rest of the thousands of items which make up Thorite's £3 million stock levels, are instantly available for nationwide, same day despatch.

The original National Distribution Centre, located at the company's sales and service centre in Leeds, has been re-launched as an upgraded local branch and will retain its busy trade counter. Other Thorite sales and service centres, in Blackburn, Bolton, Doncaster, Huddersfield, Rochdale, Sheffield and the recently-opened service depot in Birtley (near Gateshead) are already reporting benefits from the increased efficiency the new operation provides.

Speaking of the new installation, Stephen Wright, Thorite's managing director said: "The decision to create a new, state of the art, National Distribution Centre at our head office reflects Thorite's determination, not only to provide the widest range of pneumatic and fluid process products and systems available, but also to supply them as rapidly as possible. It represents a major step forward in our medium term expansion strategy and should prove a boon to our customers, whatever their location."
