This year, Germany can be proud to have two winners of the Nobel Prize in natural sciences. The Nobel Prize in physics goes to scientist Prof. Dr. Peter Grünberg from Jülich Research Center, Germany. Researcher Prof. Dr. Gerhard Ertl from Fritz-Haber-Institute in Berlin receives the Nobel Prize in chemistry.

Peter Grünberg explored the magnetic GMR effect (giant magneto resistance). Since then, MR sensors are constantly conquering new areas of application in the magnetic field measurement. Gerhard Ertl receives the prize for his research of chemical reactions at surface catalysts.

Vacuum technology from Pfeiffer Vacuum is used in all major physics and chemistry laboratories worldwide. For many years, both the Research Center in Jülich as well as the Fritz-Haber-Institute of the Max-Planck-Society rely on the company's high-tech vacuum products. Pfeiffer Vacuum congratulates both laureates.
